FaroCar Frequently Asked Questions


I DON'T HAVE CREDIT CARD, CAN I HIRE A CAR?
Yes, you can. By subscribing to SCDW insurance you can hire your chosen vehicle and then leave a security refundable deposit of €500.00 as guarantee. This amount will be immediately refunded at the end of your rental.


IS MY BOOKING GUARANTEED WHEN I ARRIVE AT FARO AIRPORT?
Yes.


CAN I PICK UP AT FARO AND LEAVE THE CAR AT LISBON OR PORTO?
Yes, but a transportation fee will be applied.


IS THERE A CANCELLATION FEE?
No, but we kindly ask you to inform us at least 24h prior to your arrival.


WHAT IF I FIND A BETTER RATE ELSEWHERE?
Please contact us, in most cases hidden costs are found, we will help you to get the best car hire deal possible.


CAN I PICK UP AT MY VILLA OR HOTEL IN ALGARVE FREE OF CHARGE?
Yes, it's free of charge to most locations in the Algarve except for the following distant areas:
€ 10.00 fee - Carvoeiro, Tavira, Lagos, Praia da Luz
€ 25.00 fee - Aljezur, Altura, Burgau, Castro Marim, Monchique, Sagres, Salema, Silves, Vila do Bispo, Vila Real de Santo António


WHAT SHOULD I DO IN CASE OF ACCIDENT?
Call the Police - 112
Call us and/or the insurance company.
Please fill in the entire accident claim.
In case of car breakdown please call 24 Hour Road Assistance, but if the car still runs please get to the nearest Company station and replace the vehicle. The telephone number is on the Company Rental Agreement and on this document as well as on the car key tag.
The Insurance company declines accidents not reported to the police, even if you choose the SCDW INSURANCE.


WHAT SHOULD I DO IF I WANT TO EXTEND MY RENTAL?
Please ring the phone number listed in our contact us page.
The vehicle that runs beyond the rental period mentioned on the rental agreement without any notice, incurs in legal penalties which are entire responsibility of the driver.


SHOULD I RETURN THE CAR WITH FUEL?
The car should be returned with the same level of fuel as when you found it at the beginning of your rental. If less, we charge for the missing fuel cost.


WHAT MAY HAPPEN IN CASE OF EXCEDING LEGAL SPEED LIMITS?
The Portuguese government implemented a control program on the main roads (Tolerância Zero). The fines are high and always of the driver's responsibility.
Otherwise signalized here are the following speed limits :

• Built-up areas (Inside Villages, Cities or Towns): 50 km/h = 30 mph
• Other roads (Outside Villages, Cities or Towns) : 90 km/h = 54 mph
• Motorways: 120 km/h = 72 mph


WHAT PROCEDURE SHOULD BE FOLLOWED WHEN RETURNIG THE CAR?
Please park your vehicle in P4.
Make sure that the person that accepts the car is one of our receptionists.
Control the car with the receptionist for damages and check with the Company Rental Agreement which indicates if there were any damages already when you rented the car.
Make sure you do not forget anything inside the car.
If you return the car at the airport before your flight, then you should do it at least 2 hours before flight departure.
If you can't find our staff in the parking area and you're late for your departure flight, you can leave the car keys in the prepared key slot of our parked Van in P4.


CAN I TRAVEL ABROAD?
You need the Green Card and road assistance for travelling abroad which costs € 25.00 per hire

LATE NIGHT FLIGHTS, DO YOU HAVE ANY CHARGES?
Flights arriving between 22.00h - 07.00h have an extra charge of € 15.00 per hire

DO YOU ACCEPT BOOKINGS FOR YOUNG DRIVERS?
We do not accept drivers with less than one year of driving license or with less than 21 years old.
Drivers between 21 - 25 years old have to pay a young driver fee of € 15.00 per hire.
